Proud Mama
Becky is the new owner of a Cervelo P2! I helped her with the bike shopping (I love spending other people's money!) and it did not take long for the bike to "speak to her." The fit was very nice. With one test ride around the parking lot, she could feel how it would be a huge upgrade from her road bike with clip-ons.
I imagine the bike was begging to her much like a puppy at the adoption center.
Becky purchased her new baby from ACME Multisports.
My client sent me this.....

Bike Snob NYC Cites STtrainer E-How Video
If you haven't read Bike Snob NYC blog, it really is worth checking out. He has a great writing style that I really admire, and he digs into the minutiae of cycling.
On every Friday he has a quiz. Choose the write answer and you see the correct answer posted somewhere on the internet. Choose the wrong answer, and you link to something funny....like these E-how videos I starred in.
Bike Snob NYC Friday April 9 (Note: you have to take the quiz to see the STtrainer link.)
(Edit: I actually got an e-mail from BSNYC! Woo-hoo!)
Me to Bike Snob NYC:
Dude you made my day by making me the "wrong answer" on the Friday quiz. Yes I know the videos are cheesy and edited at the 3rd grade level...I deserved it! Thanks a lot! LOL!
Yours truly from a faithful reader,
ST

Triathlon in the Popular Press
I recently found this article entitled, "How The Triathlon Became The New Status Symbol" in an issue of Details magazine:
"[T]oday's executive is just as likely to be a triathlete, whereas 15 or 20 years ago that person would have always been a golfer--golf would have been the way you bonded with other executives."
The article covers a little of the history of the sport, namely how it began as a counter-culture niche and has grown to a pop phenomenon with "no shortage of pussy races that for instance, substitute 15 pool laps for multi-mile open-ocean crossings."
"For a decent tri bike," he says, "you're spending $4,000 or $5,000...That's a lot of money for a guy to just be able to say, 'Hey, I finished a triathlon.' Yes, and as with a membership at Winged Foot or a share in NetJets, that's part of the appeal."
My view:
- The pool swims are a great way to get people started in the sport (and the lifestyle) so they can build up to the more extreme races.
- Your accomplishment as a triathlete has nothing to do with the cost of your bike. Your heart does.
- Skull and bones sculptures made with traithlon equipment look funny.

I can't make this stuff up!
One of my clients sent me this e-mail after a great week of training:
"Thanks again for your little magic pixy dust Stephen, you have built quite a group around your awesomeness! You’re like a super hero to me!"
